 A-Kon 2008, belated

So, not last weekend but the weekend before, I buggered off for Dallas, Texas, and spent the weekend wallowing in my own dorkery. Since I am lazy, rather than go over ground already covered I will point you here,to Becky's already-posted entry, and sit back, secure in the knowledge that someone else has already done most of the dirty work. Once I get my pics developed (putting a new battery in Largo ate up my developing money-that's sixty bucks I won't see again) I will post them here.
Other things happened, as well-- I met the fantastic Contessa briefly before the Hellsing shoot; there was Texas barbeque (OMG YUM) and thrift-store shopping (found cool stuff at the Army/Navy store, including this leather pouch thing that nobody appears to be able to identify), antique-store shopping (found an awesome old sewing-attachments box that has all four sides hinged so when you open it, it lies down flat, and a couple of neat old photos that are going to be stories); there were going to be cemetary pictures but we ran out of time; there was dancing at The Church (a fantastic goth-themed club in Dallas, and why the hell don't they have those around here? I sulk). There was also drama but we are not going into that. There is always drama on trips. :D
All in all, I had a fantastic time. It gives me hope for Dragon*Con, which I am attending this year for the first time. Dave Tango! YAY! |

ZOMG you went to The Church we were gonna go to The Church but I was sooo tired and we should have gone to The Church and ARGH!
Right. Sorry. Just a missed opportunity I shall never recapture. Moving on with my life. Though I intend to check out Panopticon, which is a goth night run by someone rejoicing in the handle, I kid you not, DJ Lord Byron. I know. DJ LORD BYRON. Swoony nickname is swoony. He's probably a tool, but I will give him the benefit of the doubt until he proves his toolishness.
You, my dear, looked hawt with much hawtness. OH! And I totally should tell you about the creepy old guy who wanted to see allz teh boobiez and uses an interest in steampunk to faciliate said lechery, but frankly, it still makes my skin crawl. Suffice to say that on Saturday, when my friend Amanda returned to the Con in a more low-cut top, he asked her to close her eyes, then admitted he just wanted to stare at her breasts without her noticing. So much fail. Sooooo much fail.
Also, the presentation on How To Talk To Girls was hysterical.

We went to the Church and it was GREAT zomg. :D I need clubs like that around here. I would be in shape in four weeks flat.
DJ LORD BYRON. Oh dear Lord that is funny for reasons I would never be able to explain. You will have to tell me, though, whether or not he really is a tool, or if he can possibly live up to the moniker he has chosen, because enquiring minds (more than mine) want to know. Have a keen interest in knowing, in fact. *wg*
-blushypreen- I am coming to grips with the fact that I apparently make a damn fine Integra. It's a struggle, but I think I can handle it. And I had enough of an ego boost that I am going to try for Luke Valentine, to début at Dragon*Con, if I can get him put together in time. Easy costume, but potentially expensive, because not a lot of the bits of it will be readily findable at thrift stores.
Damn a man with good taste.
Monsieur Pre-vert should have had a smack upside the head with something large, heavy, and geared. Just sayin'. :D

As soon as things what were in the air are no longer...um...in the air, and I get my ass over to Panopticon, I will let you know. If possible, I will get pics.
Alas, I must confess that I am a manga poseur, and have no idea who anyone is unless they're in Hellsing, Little Pet Shop of Horrors, or Bizengast. Yep. I'm lame. But! I'm sure you'll make a smashing Valentine.
